Stags’ Leap Winery

Immersive Leap of Legend Experience hits Napa Valley winery’s historical highlights.

Winery visitors who appreciate tastings with a dollop of whimsy will enjoy the Leap of Legend Experience at Stags’ Leap Winery in Napa Valley. The layered backstory of this 19th-century estate is well told as guests wander through theatrically designed rooms depicting historical events and eras. As in an escape game, each group must complete a small task to proceed to the next room.

Occasionally a Hoot

Entertaining and occasionally a hoot, the experience vividly hits several of the property’s highlights, starting with the titular legend of a stag leaping across a chasm to escape pursuing hunters in the Stags Leap Palisades. The stories of subsequent owners and periods of dormancy follow. 

Putting Real Life in Context

Among Leap of Legend’s strengths is the way it places real-life spaces and artifacts in context. These include the downstairs tasting areas, which were restored in 2016, as well as documents such as newsletters and old brochures. Clever use of AI brings the speakeasy era to life.

Ideal for Friends 

The Leap of Legend Experience, which debuted on June 29th and runs through August 22nd, is ideal for a group of friends — a minimum of four, maximum of six, all booked together (i.e., you’re not paired with strangers) — and provides an enjoyable introduction to the winery and its appellation. A full tasting of mostly red wines concludes the experience.
