West Marin restaurant serves rotisserie and other Mod-Am comfort food.
The owner of the Station House Cafe, a Point Reyes Station staple for more than four decades, reconceived the former Pine Cone Diner, creating a snappy, upbeat space for Modern American comfort food. The Side Street Kitchen menu revolves, literally, around the high-tech knob-laden rotisserie, which churns out free-range whole chickens and juicy tri-tip.
If it’s midday and you’re not overly hungry, you can nosh on small bites that might include mac and cheese, chicken liver pâté, and smoked trout. Pork-belly BLT and tri-tip sandwiches make good lunchtime and early dinner choices (the restaurant closes at 6 pm). Heirloom beans go into the hearty take on cassoulet, available with or without bratwurst.
Side Street Kitchen Hot Tips
The deal at Side Street Kitchen is the roasted free-range chicken, which two or more diners can share. A whole chicken comes with three sauces (salsa verde, chimichurri, and curried yogurt) on the side (choice of one for half). The weekday family special meal, served between 3 and 5 pm to go or eat in, includes a whole chicken, roasted potatoes, and a salad.
